Visual Departures Ltd. (hereafter, “We”) are not in the business of selling our customers’ information. Our business is (and always will be) based on the sale of tangible products, not data. However, it is an inevitable part of the Internet age that some information is exchanged when you visit any website. This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is collected, used, and shared when you visit or make a purchase from microgaffer.com (the “Site”).

Information We Collect

When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device. Additionally, as you browse the Site, we collect information about the individual web pages or products that you view, which websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with the Site. We refer to this automatically-collected information as “Device Information.”

We collect Device Information using the following technologies: (1) “Cookies” are data files placed on your device or computer which often include an anonymous unique identifier; (2) “Log files” are files kept on secure servers and track actions occurring on the Site, including data such as your IP address, browser type, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and the date and time of your visit; (3) “Beacons” (a.k.a. “pixels”) are files on remote servers used to record information about how you browse the Site, including whether an advertisement led you to the Site and/or you made a purchase or contacted us.

Additionally, when you make (or attempt to make) a purchase through the Site, we may collect certain information from you, including your name, billing address, shipping address, email address, phone number, and payment information (including credit card numbers or other payment processor information such as Shopify, PayPal, Facebook Checkout, or Amazon Payments). We refer to this information as “Order Information.” Order Information is stored on secure servers, behind a firewall, and encrypted. This information may physically be stored on servers in the United States or Canada, depending on the checkout method you choose.

We maintain a presence on third-party social networking sites (e.g., Twitter, Flickr, Facebook, Instagram, Google Plus, YouTube) in order to promote our Site and products and, in some cases, to offer the ability to buy our products directly on those sites. We may also link to or embed posts from other third-party sites (e.g., Vimeo, MSNBC). Please refer to the privacy policies on those respective sites to understand how (and with whom) those services may use and share your information. Where we can, we attempt to minimize the use of JavaScript-based “widgets” from these third-party sites. This should help limit needless sharing of your data, but does not prevent it entirely.

You have the option of refusing (“opting out”) of cookies and beacons entirely. We use Google Analytics to collect Device Information and Shopify to collect Order Information. (In cases where you chose to use PayPal, Facebook, or Amazon to complete your purchase, your information would necessarily be transferred to their servers, as well.) You may block these services at your discretion; however, be advised that some parts of the Site may not function properly if these features are disabled. As the process is different for each site, browser, and computing platform, we suggest using your favorite search engine to find the correct and most up-to-date procedure for your specific case.

How We Use Your Information

When we talk about “Personal Information” in this Privacy Policy, we are talking both about Device Information and Order Information.

We combine Device Information from all our users in order to screen for potential fraud and to continually improve the Site. We perform analysis on the aggregated data so that we can understand how to make the Site more useful and effective. Neither this information nor its analysis are shared with third parties. We do not attempt to identify specific users (e.g., tying a set of Device Information to a specific name and address) either through cookies/beacons or third-party (“offline”) datasets. We retain this aggregated Device Information indefinitely in order to allow performance analysis of our business development efforts and to plan for future ones.

We use Order Information to fulfill orders placed through the Site (including processing your payment information, arranging for shipping, and providing you with invoices and/or order confirmations). Additionally, we use this Order Information to communicate with you, screen for potential risk or fraud, and (should you opt-in) provide you with information or advertising relating to our products or services. We retain your Order Information indefinitely for the above reasons unless and until you ask us to delete this information. In the event of a data breach, we will inform you by email within seven business days. If your email is returned as undeliverable, we will notify you by postal mail at the address you provided when you ordered.

We use your Personal Information to provide you with targeted advertisements or marketing communications we believe may be of interest to you (such as sending a follow-up email if you added an item to your shopping cart but did not complete the checkout process). Note that some advertising and remarketing services such as Google, Facebook, and Twitter may set cookies, detect your geographic location, or use other heuristics to tie together more of your data; if this is troubling, we recommend opting out of cookies from each of those services using the process noted above. We do not currently alter our Site’s data practices in response to browser Do Not Track signals.

We do not share your email address or other Personal Information with third parties except as necessary: to fulfill orders, to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful request for information, or to otherwise protect our rights.

If you contact us by email or by using a form on the Site, we will respond to your customer service inquiry and retain the messages exchanged, but will not otherwise use your information (for example, adding you to a mailing list).

Nobody likes getting junk mail, so we have always required a “double opt-in” from you before we will add you to our email lists. Our mailing list service is provided by MailChimp; please refer to their privacy policy as your information may be transferred to them to enable the workflows we use to send email to current and potential customers. Regarding Order Information: neither your mailing address nor financial information is ever transferred to MailChimp; however, we do track how often a purchase is made (including whether the purchase process was not fully completed). All our marketing emails include an unsubscribe link, and we comply with all opt-out requests promptly.

Update/Deletion Requests

If you are a European resident, you have the right to access personal information we hold about you and to ask that your personal information be corrected, updated, or deleted. If you would like to exercise this right, please contact us using the information below. Additionally, note that we are processing your information in order to fulfill contracts we might have with you (for example, if you placed an order through the Site), or otherwise to pursue our legitimate business interests listed above. Lastly, please note that this process requires your information to be transferred outside of Europe, including to the United States and Canada.

The Site is not targeted or intended for individuals under the age of 13. Parents or guardians who believe we hold information about their children aged 13 and under may contact us at the address below to request deletion.

Policy Updates

We may update this privacy policy at our discretion in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons. In the event of a transfer of ownership, your information may be transferred to the new owners and changes to this privacy policy, if any, will be communicated to you.
